Frogmouth (Tawny)

The Tawny Frogmouth, , is an Australian variety of frogmouth, a type of bird found throughout the Australian mainland, Tasmania and southern New Guinea.

The Tawny Frogmouth is often thought to be an owl. Many Australians incorrectly refer to the Tawny Frogmouth to the Southern Boobook Owl. Frogmouths are not raptorial birds. Tawny Frogmouths typically wait for their prey to come to them, instead of hunting on the wing much like owls.

Frogmouths always nest in trees, usually in the fork of horizontal branches. Some birds build a frail platform of sticks, others a pad of their own feathers, which they camouflage with lichens, mosses, and spider webs.
